Hello, and welcome to my website!

My name is Richard Lemarchand, and I’m a game designer interested in innovation and creativity, game storytelling, and games as art.

Between 2004 and 2012 I worked at Naughty Dog, creators of the award-winning Uncharted series, where I was the lead or the co-lead game designer of all three Uncharted games for the PlayStation 3. I had an amazing time working with the world-class developers at Naughty Dog on the development of a total of five different critically acclaimed, multimillion-selling projects.

I am now a full and tenured Professor of Cinematic Arts in the USC Games program at the University of Southern California, where I teach game design, development, and production. I’ve also been working on a series of experimental virtual reality game design research projects as part of the USC Game Innovation Lab.

My book A Playful Production Process: For Game Designers (and Everyone) was published by the MIT Press in 2021. It has been translated into Mandarin Chinese, Korea, and Russian, and has been adopted by more than fifty university courses around the world.

I continue to work as a consultant to the game industry, so please feel free to contact me with inquiries at:
